San Salvador –> Grand Junction, CO –> Great Sand Dunes N.P.

5:30 a.m. San Salvador International. Loading up for Houston.

Salvadoran sugar cane fields in the littoral zone.

Small town near the airport

Salvadoran morning, high above.

Above Suchitoto, El Salvador

Over eastern Guatemala. Non-stop beauty above.

Houston. Immigration. Ughh. Had to beg a cut in line.

Arrived at brother Dave's in Grand Junction, CO after the tightest connections and longest lines and weather-est of delays!

Heading south towards New Mexico. Crossing the Rio Grande first of two times on this trip.

In Alamosa, the mighty Rio Grande ... as a wide stream.

The Sangre de Cristo Range, Blanca Peak - 14,350 ft

Looking west, across southern CO. Rio Grande Nat'l Forest on the mountains in the distance. So quiet.

This tumbleweed actually blew up against my leg. Begging for a photo! Built for tumblin'.

Huge sky in these parts.

Because it was there ...

Approaching Great Sand Dunes Nat'l Park

Great Sand Dunes Nat'l Park

My trusty steed. It's a cruiser.

I made it up to the ridge below the top ridge. Took about an hour. Walking on sand is hard. Walking uphill on sand is verrry hard. But beautiful.

It looks flat here. It wasn't.

Taken by a fellow plodder on the "trail"

Great Sand Dunes Nat'l Park

Once you're IN them, it's huge.

Stark beauty.

So much sand. Wind blown. Ever changing.

Heaven and earth?

Departing ...

Drama lighting on the road.

Looking towards Antonito and Chama, on the CO-NM border.

A whole rainstorm in the windshield.
